TIME LAPSE

What is the meaning of timelapse? Britannica Dictionary definition of TIME–LAPSE. always used before a noun. — used to describe a way of filming something in which many photographs are taken over a long period of time and are shown quickly in a series so that a slow action (such as the opening of a flower bud) appears to happen quickly.

Why do people use time-lapse? Today, time-lapse photography is commonly used to capture slow-moving scenes that would otherwise be boring or imperceptible to the naked eye, such as the growth of a plant or the flow of traffic. Conversely, time-lapses can also capture fast movements and make them appear even quicker, like a waterfall.

Nowadays, time-lapse photography is mainly used as an artistic effect to convey the passing of long periods of time – or with educational/entertainment purposes, to show in just a few seconds a process that in reality took hours or even days to complete (such as a flower opening, an artist painting a work of art, or the process of the construction of a bridge or a house).

Time-lapse is a creative filming and video editing technique that manipulates how frame rate is captured. Frame rate is the number of images, or frames, that appear in a second of video. In most videos, the frame rate and playback speed are the same.

The consistency paradox or grandfather paradox occurs when the past is changed in any way, thus creating a contradiction. A common example given is traveling to the past and intervening with the conception of one's ancestors (such as causing the death of the parent beforehand), thus affecting the conception of oneself.

THINGS YOU MAY NOT KNOW: Although Muybridge was probably the inventor of time-lapse photography, the name that made this technique popular was French film director Georges Méliès, who was the first one to use the time-lapse technique in a feature film. In 1897 he released “Carrefour de L’Opera”, the first feature film to use time-lapses.
