JOMTIEN BEACH

Everyone loves a beach and Jomtien has  6 km stretch of sand with a beachwalk, which is ideal for walking, swimming, biking, windsurfing, riding a banana boat, parasailing and just hanging out.  Without a doubt, the pleasure of a leisurely day on the sandy shore, splashing in the clean and uncluttered sea and enjoying the cheap seafood snacks available from wandering vendors is fit for tourists, retirees and locals alike.

JETSKI WORLD CUP

If lazing on the beach isn’t for you, however, there is still plenty to do. Check out  Jomtien Beach to find some of the finest restaurants in the area as well over 20 excellent golf courses open year around... from budget minded to more expensive ones like Old Siam where they hold the annual LPGA golf tournament.

LAZING ON THE BEACH

If shopping is your thing you can hop on one of  the long-tails or baht buses approx. 15 minutes and a cost of 10 baht and go to Pattaya where they have many high quality shopping centers plus top notch hospitals if you need a check-up. Also excellent Dental Clinics with prices 60 percent lower than Europe or America. No wonder they call Thailand the land of smiles everyone has a good set of choppers.

One of the joys living in Jomtien Beach is the many activities (mostly free) put on by the Tourism Association including three day jet-ski race,  wind surfing races, fishing contests, and free musical shows directly on the beach several times a year.

WATER SPORTS

If you like fresh seafood snacks with shrimp so fresh they are nearly jumping on your plate or want to lounge under any of the umbrella stands you can get fresh coconut, a cold beer or just chill and watch the ocean waves roll in.  Whilst on the beach  many sidewalk vendors will display fresh fruits, fresh seafood, swim suits, shorts, shirts, dresses, beach mats, colorful scarves plus every variety of sunglasses. I think the vendors are great... they earn a little money and have so many tempting offerings... you can have a Thai lunch for 25 baht delivered to your lounge chair underneath colorful umbrellas.

VACATION RENTALS

No trip would be complete without visiting the many professional massage parlors where you can get Thai massage or foot massage for one hour 250 baht...some weekly tourists like the foot massage so much they get one every day? Some of the men folk will walk up soy 7 where there are at least 30 beer bars...so if you need to wet your whistle you are in luck.  I like the small Leo draft on tap at Vickans Sea Side Restaurant and Bar 55 baht.

BLUE SKIES & BLUE WATER

Jomtien Beach is also a great jumping off point to explore outer islands and travel south or north to other Thailand destinations. They have a local bus stop and most taxis are fair priced for short trips or negotiate all day outing. Jomtien has a population of 325000 and is ideal for retirees since it is easy to get around and has a huge selection of hotels to fit every budget, a variety of condos for rent short term or long term at affordable prices. Jomtien has day and night food markets, gyms, large super markets, seven-eleven stores everywhere, immigration, banks, temples and medical clinics.

So there you have it Jomtien Beach has the best weather in the world, every kind of restaurant you can imagine, enough coffee shops to keep you hopping on coffee beans all day or night, friendly people, many x-pats from all over the world, and  very little crime.  In the new French Magazine Thailand was just rated the fifth best place in the world to retire.

ZENTRAVELER SAYS: Need a place to hang your hat until you find out what you want and who you are:  Jomtien Beach just might be your cup of tea.
